Guidelines for Authors
The Upland Farm Journal (UFJ), is the official research journal of the Ifugao State University. It is a print and online journal that publishes high-quality articles, in English, in all areas of academic discipline. All articles published in the journal are peer-reviewed using the double blind scheme. The Upland Farm Journal is published annually or biannually depending on the number of article submission. Each journal issue is uploaded in the online journal website, https://ufj.ifsu.edu.ph/, in pdf format for general circulation.
UFJ publishes research articles that describe new information and findings derived through scientific methods. Short communications or action research is also accepted. Reviews of books and articles covering topics of current interest are also welcome for publication.
Manuscript Submission
Any scientific manuscript may be submitted for publication provided that the work has not been previously published in any journal or submitted to other publishers. A certification to this effect is required from the author/s. Violation of these two conditions will merit immediate rejection of the submitted work.
Submitted manuscripts should be in document file format (i.e. with .doc or .docx file extension). Authors may personally submit to Ifugao State University Research and Development office or through online submission at email address: research_journal@ifsu.edu.ph. and theuplandfarmjournal@gmail.com.When sending through email, please upload your manuscript as a single file with a transmittal letter addressed to The Editor containing your full name, institutional affiliation, active email address and mobile number.
The Review Process
The Upland Farm Journal follows a double-blind peer review process. This means that the author of the manuscript are unknown to the reviewer and the reviewer is likewise not revealed to the author. Manuscripts are assigned to referees on the basis of their fields of expertise. All submitted manuscripts are subjected to the UFJ standard review process. The review process workflow is as follows:
- Upon receipt of submission, the manuscript is screened by the journal editorial board for basic technical requirements and author is informed of its acceptance or rejection. If the manuscript is accepted, it will go through the double blind peer review process. If not, the article is processed no further.
- The Managing Editor (ME) sends the article for surface grammar editing.
- The article is sent to the first peer reviewer. The reviewer then submits the manuscript review report. The ME relays the review results to the author.
- The author enhances the manuscript based on the comments in the review report and returns the revised manuscript to ME.
- The revised article is sent to the second peer reviewer. The reviewer then submits the manuscript review report. The ME relays the review results to the author.
- The author enhances the manuscript based on the comments in the review report and returns the final revised manuscript to the ME.
- After the review process which may take up to 2 months, the UFJ Editor-in- Chief makes a final notice to the author for its publication.
- Authors are responsible for potential plagiarized content of the article submitted.
- Ifugao State University reserves the right to accept, reject or cancel the publication of any submitted papers/articles for publication.
Publication Fee
Manuscripts accepted for the review process are immediately required to pay a processing fee. The processing fee costs PhP4,500 or USD100 for the first seven print pages (please refer to the Preparation of Manuscripts) and an additional PhP350 per print page exceeding seven pages. The Upland Farm Journal does not refund the processing fee in any case.

Preparation of Manuscripts
General Guidelines
- Manuscripts for publication should not be more than ten print pages (equivalent to 20 pages double spaced) in Microsoft Word.
- All texts including headings must be double spaced in Garamond font, size 12.
- Paper size must be letter sized (i.e. 8.5” X 11”); the top, right and bottom margins should be 1 inch with the left margin at 1.5 inches.
- Every page of the manuscript should be numbered at the bottom right side.
- Italicize indigenous/native terms used in the text including headings, e.g.
- Italicize all scientific names, observing correct capitalization, e.g. Harpulia arborea.
- Do not underline texts including headings.
- Cite the work of all individuals whose ideas, theories, or research were mentioned in your manuscript using the APA format (American Psychological Association format).
- Use clear and simple language .
Tables
Discussion precedes all tables and figures. Tables must be numbered in Arabic numerals (e.g. Table 4) and in the order they are mentioned in the text. DO NOT use suffix letters to number tables or figures (e.g. Table 4a). All tables must also contain a brief explanatory title. Table number and title are placed above the table.
Figures
All figures must be numbered (in Arabic numerals) and captioned. Captions are placed below the figure. The caption should explain the figure and serves as the title of the figure. Graphs, charts, maps, drawings and photographs are considered figures.
Units, Symbols, and Abbreviations
Use SI units recommended by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). For plants and other living organisms, give the current scientific name, common name and local name (if available).
Use standard abbreviations and acronyms. Do not abbreviate words or use acronyms in the title and abstract. Spell out common words when used for the first time in the manuscript and include the acronym in a parenthesis. For uncommon words, spell them out until the later part of the introduction and alternately on other parts of the manuscript.
Citations in the Text (In-text Citation)
In-text citations also follow APA 6th edition format. For example, in-text citation of a single author reflects the author's last name and year of publication of the work enclosed in parenthesis, e.g. (Cruz, 2010). In parenthetical in-text citation of three or more authors, cite them the first time using all the family names of the authors (e.g. Cruz, Bautista, Gordon, & Santiago, 2003). In the succeeding parenthetical citations of the same authors use: (Cruz et al., 2003).

The list of references should be arranged alphabetically based on authors’ names. Each reference entry must use the hanging indent formatted in the APA style of listing references.
